Blast from the past

Blast from the past

Recently I got an email from the librarian of the group Bludhaven over at Yahoo! Here’s what I got.

Brendan (James)

Allow me to introduce myself... Regulars around the 'Haven already know me, but you have been AWOL since I moved here.

My name is Kathy, and I am the new librarian for the 'Haven archives...

Lately, however, though, I have had this annoying visitor, who has been trying to find you... I think his name is Harvey? It seems he has been watching the library listing, waiting for some new mention of you, as he has been trying to find you... And, since I have put your name down as co-author with Tammy for The Answer to the Primordial Question, he now thinks I know how to reach you... I don't know how much longer I can put him off... If you don't hurry up and post soon, I may have to break down and tell him where to reach you! (Seems like he wants you to finish the stories you left undone!)

He is threatening me with things like: "... and should these instructions be ignored, a disaster beyond your imagination will occur."

Thanks for any help you can give me...

Kathy Brignole
Bludhaven Library Asst.

I wrote back a small novel and I thought I’d share it.

Hi Kathy,

I left the 'haven and torched the pseudonym of Brendan Storm after a slight difference of opinion with one of the great list moderators. I opined that constructive criticism should be allowed in the group so as to allow us to positively influence others to write not just more often but grammatically and structurally better work.

I was also the proud owner of the "I stole a plot from Syl" award and was made pariah because I remembered seeing the damn story and then writing a very similar but more humorous version of the same evening. Mention the name "Elinore" in a fic and you're branded a traitor. I also vote Republican.

Due to these issues I had requested that the specific piece of work "Adventures in Babysitting" be removed, which was denied by the Legal dept of the 'haven group. There was a lot of satirical and feigned anger, but I had drifted in and out of the group several times before this and I had at the time created a list of my own, which has also been disbanded.

Personally I have and at no time ever had any animosity towards the group or the leaders of that group and I still believe that we should be allowed to use a critical eye towards the writing and art of the 'haven and the canon work we are using, namely Nightwing comics and the other DC titles.

As to what has happened to my work, my wife is the writer of the family. I have moved on from fiction to technical writing and commentary. My plots, concepts and ideas were never mine and what ever anyone wants to do with them are up to the 'haven leadership as "owners" of that fiction. In fact if something was left unfinished, by all means let someone finish it. I'd love to see how it ends.

If this "Harvey" person wishes to correspond with me in the future please direct him to my email address. I'd be happy to reminisce. I, however, do not do that kind of thing anymore, at least not unless Tammy writes it. She considers me to be a co-author for a fiction if I give her my plot bunnies, but she is and always will be the talent of this family. I can also be found as a reviewer on Fanfiction.net as "Krypto the Superdog", and I would be happy to beta for anyone who would send a submission. Brendan Storm is now a Warrior/Elementalist in Guild Wars and shall remain merely a character.

I will always have a fondness in my heart for the 'haven. The group is where I met my wife, and where I fell in love with her. If it wasn't for you I would still be alone and probably in a very bad place mentally.

All my best,
James Garrison

By the way. This is the last time I’ll be using this template on Blogger. I hate blogger’s usual templates so badly that I’m hiring my friend Joel to create a template for my blog so I can make it Do what I want it to do. That includes auto-posting my RSS feed from Battlecorps.com so you can read it and figuring out how to make my other 2 blogs I have mirror this blog, so I can do profound thoughts here and mirror them on my LJ, and then go to LJ and tell him to give me light. (Sorry an old techno reference, ignore it)

Have a nice day.

Neutral Good
You scored -1 Lawfulness and 24 Goodness!
The alignment of good is defined by justice, charity, and mercy. You believe that the punishment should fit the crime, the meek should be uplifted, and the misguided should be helped back onto the path. Sometimes you can get there by following the law, but sometimes you need to break out of the mold of authority to do the right thing. It is ideal to work within the law, but sometimes working around the law may be necessary. Examples include Batman.

My test tracked 2 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

New Webcomic and Still Hate Blog

Recently I found a new web comic.  Shortpacked!  It’s kind of a cross between everything I love about comic books and toys, and a seriously jaded and knowing look at every retail job I’ve ever had.

This one about the death of Superman is probably one of my favorites, although the Batman DDR one is a close second..

The blog continues to piss me off.  I may actually have to try to learn how to edit the template.  Dammit I want to be ignorant of the inner workings of the html design of a blog.  I’m not interested in being a guru of this thing.  I certainly almost never blog anyway.  Why should I start now?

Dear blog.

I hate you. You can't even keep the sidebar where I tell you to, cause I'm not a freakin programmer.

I put a banner up on the template and you lost it already.

You make me angry and I hate you.

The idiot liberals say you can abort a child up to 3 years old. This blog is that old and is being shitty to me.

Do the math, blog.

Little update

Little update:

Just wanted to check in.  It’s been real annoying here at the Ranch.  Tammy and I now have opposite shifts.  This means that she wakes me up real early when she’s loud and I’m trying to sleep, and then she stays up until I get home to put her to bed.  So while the upshot is that I see my wife in bed more often than any thing, both our sleep patterns are going nuts trying to keep up.

Here’s what’s been going down lately.  October 1st we started the switch shift thing and will be doing that for at least 6 months, unless they give us a raise at work or they relent and switch her back to evenings.
